Pixtorial Salutions, ye pilgrims out there. It’s Day 3 of the Meltdown Festival 2009.
Baaba Maal is one of those performers that I’d like to call affectionately a ‘Lousy talented punk‘ with the greatest of respect. Visually, he is a joy to shoot. No matter how cramped conditions are for photographers, (and trust me, the pit for this festival can be a bit tight at times!) you will find an angle that ought to give you a good shot of Baaba Maal. You’d have to be extremely unlucky to get a bad picture of him. Whenever I’ve had the opportunity to shoot him, Baaba Maal always delivers:
I mean, the dude is a joy to take pictures off. He oozes charisma; he’s a natural showman and he’s 56 years old. I mean, the dude looks like he’s 40!
Baaba Maal started the show with an acoustic set & he even made that look cool with no effort whatsoever:
It’s a damn shame that I couldn’t stay any longer than the allocated ‘3 songs & Get Lost‘ Rule. I just get the feeling this warm up to a spectacular evening. At least I did manage to get some shots of Baaba Maal with VV Brown:
Baba Maal, for services rendered to photographers and for giving us that reason to keep on taking pictures, I salute you & hereby honour you with the ‘Now That’s Good Pixing!’ Award!
All images were taken on an 1600 ISO, f/2.8 24-70 & 70-200 lenses, cramped conditions, good lighting and with the goodwill of the paying customers whom we blocked from seeing the show for the first 3 numbers. 🙂
G’night, Pilgrims!
