A HYDRA: (Greek mythology) monster with nine heads; when struck off each head was replaced by two new ones; “Hydra was slain by Hercules”
There was a bit of a Hydra situation yesterday at the Indigo O2 yesterday during Brian McKnight’s performance. Thanks to the advancement and joys of modern technology, the people at the front of the stage whip out their fancy ‘1,000,000’ mega-pixel (hah!) phone cameras and take pictures or video clips of the show that inevitably ends up making the rounds on the web. So, picture the scene: The Indigo Security team start going into the crowds to stop people from filming. Here’s the funny thing: for every 5 people that have been asked not to record, there’s another 10 more people with the lights on the phone, taking shots. There is no way that they are going to be able control this. Now, there’s always the warning at these venues that recording is illegal & such, but with people having access to the equipment and also paying a fortune to see an act, in their opinion, it’s only fair to be able to relieve the experience again & again. What is my opinion about it? Well, with performers being schmuckity about wanting to retain copyright to the pictures that we take, I think there’s an inkling as to what my opinion would be.
