Yesterday was a challenge and a half for me. I had to be at 2 places at once for a night that was a celebration of unique Indian/Pakistan music and Indian dance. The Queen Elizabeth Hall played host to Zakir Hussain and Hariprasad Chaurasia, in a tribute to the legendary tabla player, Ustad All Rakha, which clashed with another performance at The Barbican. Why both events were on the same night is beyond my reasoning, but there you go. After covering the soundcheck to Mr Zakir’s gig, it was a mad rush to the Barbican for the Ghulam Ali concert, with Rajan and Sajan Misra, Kumar Bose and the legendary Kathak dancer, Birju Maharaj. It was an enriching light of music. Young whippersnappers of today: Take note!:
